Car rental in Verona

Pointless in the historic centre, useful for Lake Garda and Valpolicella. Here's how to think about it.

Good to know

Restricted zones: what to know before driving in Verona

Verona's historic centre has an extensive restricted traffic zone active for most of the day. If your goal is to see Piazza Bra, skip the car: the centre is compact and comfortably walkable. If your goal is exploring Lake Garda or Valpolicella independently, renting makes sense — pick up the car at a car park outside the centre and don't attempt to drive it into the restricted zone.

When it's worth renting
The difference is between "driving around Verona" (never) and "using Verona as a base for Garda and the hinterland" (often yes).

When it makes sense

For Lake Garda, Valpolicella and the villages of the province — these destinations are best explored by car, with your own schedule and free stops at wineries.

When it doesn't

For staying in Verona: the historic centre is compact, pedestrian, and strictly enforced. A car here is only a parking problem.
